In the death of A.J. Williams, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.W. James, 197 East Prospect St., Cleveland, O., Tuesday. The Western Reserve loses one of its oldest and best known pioneers. Mr. Williams had been an invalid for the past three years. During the last few weeks sank slowly under the effects of disease and the ravages of time. He was a brother of J.W. and Benajah Williams, deceased formerly of this place.
He was born in Honeoye Falls, N.Y. in 1829. He was in his 73 year. When a small boy his father moved to Chagrin Falls. He prepared himself for college. He attended Allegheny College at Meadville, Pa. where he had a brother (Lorenzo D. Williams) who held one of the chairs. He graduated from that institution in 1849. He began the study of law and was admitted to the practice in 1854. He began his professional life at Painesville. Mr. Williams leaves one daughter, Mrs. J.W. James of Cleveland with whom he lived since the death of his wife in 1876. He was prominent in GAR and Masonic circles and was a member of the Loyal Legion.
