Dear Father,
It is not because LD has nothing more to say to you, that he has not filled out this sheet, but he has a fashion of writing such short letters, that he thinks he has no time to write others. - If you would come out here, he would talk enough, and more too.  It is now 3 years tomorrow morning since we foud ourselfs stripped of home and all its comforts, in a very short time that fire made short-work.  Out of all the nice quilts, and bed clothes I had, I saved 4 old quilts, - and 2 old feather beds, not - a blanket - or comfort - or straw bed. - I had some beautiful quilts ...
